LADY INDIANS HISTORY

Lake Central has had a very successful past in Girls' Basketball. The Indians have been IHSAA Sectional Champions 17 times, most recently in 2018. The Lady Indians have won 4 IHSAA Regional Championships (1994, 1995, 1996, and 1998), and 3 IHSAA Semi-State Championships (1994, 1995, and 1998). In 1994, they won the IHSAA State Championship. In 1998, Lady Indians' guard Kelly Komara won Indiana Miss Basketball.  Lake Central won its first Duneland Athletic Conference Championship in 2015.

Tom Megyesi is the most successful coach in Lady Indians history. Coach Megyesi was the head coach of the Lady Indians for 24 years, a time span in which he amassed 385 wins. Coach Megyesi resigned after the 2005-2006 season; he coached at Washington Township the next year and finished his IHSAA coaching  career with 395 wins. Tim Powers succeeded Megyesi; he was the Lady Indians head coach for one year before resigning to become an assistant principal at the school. Leslie Iwema succeeded Powers as Lady Indians coach for 5 years. She led to the Lady Indians to their first sectional championship since 1999 in 2011. Coach Iwema resigned after the 2011-2012 season and was followed by  Coach Urban who led the Indians to Sectional Championships in both 2013 and 2015.  Current Coach Joe Huppenthal has lead the Indians to a fourth straight DAC Championship in 2017-2018 and a Sectional Championship in 2018.
